What began as bringing supplies to the island turned into something much bigger. As our founding family spent time in Abaco, they got to know the community — hearing their stories, and their greatest need: an education for their kids.
That relationship became the heart of Austin Serving Abaco. With the support of both the Austin and Abaco communities, our mission has grown to provide school books to almost 200 kids in need.
The Farm is home to most of the kids we serve. There is no running water or electricity, but it is a place where there is community.
Nearly all of the families here are of Haitian descent, and came to the Bahamas in search of a better life. For most, leaving Haiti was a matter of survival.
Almost all of the children we serve were born in The Bahamas, but being born there does not automatically grant them citizenship. With no birthright citizenship, many of these young people grow up without a confirmed nationality. After turning 18, they have a limited one-year window to apply for Bahamian citizenship.
The process can be long, complicated, and expensive, requiring documentation, financial resources, and support that many families simply do not have. Without citizenship, opportunities for higher education and stable employment can remain out of reach well into adulthood.
Austin Serving Abaco has committed to walk alongside our high school graduates as they navigate this process — helping with applications, providing financial support, and, most importantly, sharing the love of Jesus and the true hope found in Him.
Education is the cornerstone of success. For kids facing displacement and uncertain legal status, staying in school is one of the few stable, forward-moving things in their lives.
ASA has a goal to share the gospel with the community of Abaco, and to help as many kids as possible stay in school and graduate.
Every student needs school books to attend class. We fund those books directly so no child is turned away.
Backpack, shoe, and clothing drives, plus school books, help kids learn and thrive.
Youth nights at Faith Bible Church and mission trips build encouragement that lasts.
